Nursery Grant – Downham Nursery

Nursery Grant – Downham Nursery

This can be claimed by the school on your behalf. The grant pays for 15 hours per week.

The nursery is not registered to accept the funding for 2-year olds. The nursery is registered to accept the 15 hours universal offer and is now also registered for the 30-hour offer.

Parents can check if they qualify for the 30 hour grant on the following website

During these sessions the child’s key person will make observations on each stage and area of their development. Currently these are arranged into 7 areas.

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive arts and Design

After making careful observation the key person will plan the next stage for each child’s learning. Each child has a very detailed Progress Record Book into which all observations are noted. These records are also given to parents to give to their child’s new teacher. This helps their new teacher plan for each child’s needs when they transfer.

When Ofsted inspectors visit the school they ask to see these records to ensure that they are being kept correctly and that the children have the opportunity to take part in all areas of the EYFS curriculum. Using these they make a judgment about the school’s effectiveness in monitoring each child and the plans, which are then written, to guide the child through their next stage of development.
